Company History

Wilderness Log Homes was founded in 1972. The firm’s headquarters was moved to Plymouth, WI, in 1976. The firm’s sales were measured in the millions and it ranked as a leader in the industry. Wilderness Log Homes, Inc. was purchased in May 1996 by a group of investors.

In October 1997, the owners of Wilderness Log Homes purchased a major competitor and one of the industry’s best-known companies, Greatwood Log Homes. The acquisition provided additional production capacity and a well-recognized and respected brand name. In that same year Wilderness launched a new product line called The Retreat Series. With these three brands, Wilderness, Greatwood, and The Retreat Series were able to meet the needs of almost any log home enthusiast.

On June 6, 2008, Wilderness Log Home, Greatwood, and The Retreat Series assets were purchased by Wilderness Log and Timber Company.

Today the new company employs over 20 men and women at its headquarters and production facilities. It has one of the strongest dealer networks in the log home industry. Over 150 standard plans and thousands of unique floor plan options are available. Our professional Engineering and Design staff prepares custom plans to meet every customer’s needs and tastes. We are one of a few companies offering a choice of Northern White Cedar, high quality Northern Red or White Pine, and Western Red Cedar. The company also manufactures custom commercial buildings.
